THE THIRST PROJECT

This year, Key Club is working together with the Thirst Project—the world’s largest youth water organization—to end the water crisis in Swaziland. The Thirst Project seeks to educate students around the United States on the global water crisis and empower them to go out and raise funds for water projects. Their goal is to raise $50 million for Swaziland by 2022.

Key Club has decided to focus the country of Swaziland as:

  • Swaziland has the highest population density of HIV/AIDS.

    • For someone with HIV or AIDS, drinking dirty water can kill them faster than the HIV/AIDS itself as unclean water can contain a number of diseases.

  • Swaziland’s population is small enough to make it possible to eliminate the water crisis there within a few years.

    • By successfully eliminating the water crisis in Swaziland, it can serve as a model for a “complete solution” on the international scale. This would show the importance of clean water and how one can help end the crisis .

This year, the Pacific Northwest Key Club has set its fundraising goal to $75,000. All of the money raised will go towards building water projects in Swaziland (which includes up to six wells!)
